• Commissioner Austin Delivers I-69 Signs to Capitol Hill

July 1, 2012

On a visit to Capitol Hill in Washington earlier this year, Texas Transportation Commission Member Jeff Austin III of Tyler noticed  something was missing from congressional offices – signs signaling the importance of Interstate 69.

Austin made a trip back to Washington in June to deliver official I-69 signs to the offices of each Senator and Member of Congress whose district includes a part of the I-69 route in Texas.  The Alliance for I-69 Texas had a delegation to accompany him on the visits to each office.  The wall signs were enthusiastically received as members showed their continued support for the progress being made on I-69.

Here are photos of the joyful sign presentations. House members are shown in alphabetical order.

I-69 Delegation In Washington

The I-69 delegation visiting members of Congress included (l-r) Charles Thomas, Larry Meyers, Commissioner Austin, Linda Thomas, Jennifer Shepard and John Thompson.

Retiring Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison autographed her sign with the following: "I69 Alliance, We did it together." As she prepared to leave office she wanted the Allince to have the sign so she presented it to Julian Alvarez of the Rio Grande Valley Partnership where it is on display in their Weslaco board room.
